Welcome to KHS Forensics!
What is this club all about? The KHS forensics team (previously known as Speech Team) is an after school organization that allows talented students the chance to travel and compete in various acting , public speaking, and debate events. The team meets most Thursdays after school until 3:30. Tournaments are usually held on Saturdays at schools all across the state. Team members are given advance notice of the tournaments and they may sign up for as many or as few as they like. In order to attend an overnight tournament, the team member must compete in at least one-day trip prior.
What is the cost? Team dues are $10.00 to join; this money goes to help pay our state dues to the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League (THSSDL) and our dues for National Forensics League (NFL).
Who can join? Any student who is interested is welcome to join us!
Parental involvement: Parents are a big help to this organization. For every tournament, I will need volunteers to chaperone, judge and assist in other matters.
What events are offered? Most tournaments offer the following events: Dramatic Interp (memorized), Humorous Interp (memorized), Prose Reading (with script), Poetry Interp (w/script), Duo Interp (w/script), Duet Acting (memorized), Original Oratory (a memorized speech YOU write), Extemp Speaking (you have thirty minutes to research, write and memorize a 7 minute speech), Solo Acting (memorized), Debate (we have not tried this before, but I'm willing), Storytelling (memorized, you may write it yourself or tell a published story). There are other events offered at some tournaments, but these are the standards.
