Circulation Policy and Procedures:
- There is no limit on the number of books that can be checked out, but please be reasonable and responsible.
- The checkout period for all items is 2 weeks.
- Overdue fines are $0.10 per day per item.
- Students may renew books every two weeks.
- No check outs are allowed when a student owes a fine or has overdue items checked out.
Scheduling:
Teachers may schedule their classes into the library on a first-come first-served basis. Teachers should see the librarian for a sign-up sheet. Teachers may also send up to two students at a time to work in the library during class time. The teacher must send students with written passes.
Good Behavior is Required:
Students are expected to be respectful of others and library materials while in the library. Conversations should be conducted in low voices and horseplay or roughhousing is not allowed. You will be warned one time for an offense. You will then be written up for repeat offenses.
- No food or drink is permitted inside the library except for water bottles.
- Cell phones and MP3 players are not permitted in the library at any time.
Printing Policy:
Students are limited to printing 3 pages per day. Students who choose to print more will pay $0.10 per page for additional pages. Printing charges are due upon the time of printing. Students may choose to charge those pages onto their library accounts due and payable before the end of the nine week grading period.
Morning Procedures (7:10 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.):
- Sign in at the circulation desk to use a computer (students may read personal email and/or play Internet games during this time).
- Check out/Return books
- Do homework
- Study for tests
- Work on group projects
- Read books and/or periodicals
Afternoon Procedures (2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.):

Catalog Computers:
These computers are located on the far right-hand side of the circulation desk. These computers should only be used for looking up items within the NWHS Library.
Note: All of the student computers in the library also have access to our library's holdings should the two catalog computers be occupied. There is an icon on the desktops of the regular student computers that will link them to the NWHS Viking Library's holdings.
Internet Computers:
These machines are for everyone's use...so please treat them with care. Surfing to personal web sites and chat rooms are against school policy and are not permitted. Head phones are not permitted while using these computers. Students not following this policy will lose their library computer privileges.
Advisory Passes (9:20 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.):
- Passes are limited - No more than 25 are given out per day.
- Students may sign up for an Advisory Pass between 7:10 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
- Students with Advisory Passes should take them to their 3rd period teacher at the beginning of the advisory period for approval and signature.
- After getting approval, you will be released by your 3rd period teacher to come to the library.
- Upon your arrival at the library, place your Advisory Pass inside the wire basket on top of the circulation desk and check your name off of the official advisory list.
- The librarians will then sign and date your Advisory Pass and you can pick it up on your way out the door to your 3rd period class.
- Checking personal email and/or playing games during advisory is not permitted.
- No student will be admitted into the library during advisory period without an approved advisory pass.
Teacher Passes (issued only be the teacher):
These passes are used for makeup tests or any other exercise deemed necessary by the teacher. You can not use a teacher pass to come to the library during advisory period...you must have an approved Advisory Pass issued by a librarian.
Planner Passes (used with teacher permission):
- These passes are used for student needs such as returning/checking out books, using the student copier, paying fines, etc.
- Students can not use a planner pass to come to the library during advisory period...you must have an approved Advisory Pass issued by a librarian.
